We recognize the importance of discernment and pastoral responsibility. NYS Altars of Worship and One Voice NY are offered as an invitation, and is intended to operate in a manner that honors Scripture, order, and the conscience of church leadership. The following are answers to questions you might have.
FAQ
- 01No. NYS Altars of Worship is not a denomination, formal network, or governing body. We do not provide covering, credentials, or oversight for churches or leaders. We are a cooperative worship initiative that exists to facilitate unified praise and worship across New York State while honoring existing church leadership structures.
- 02No. Unity does not mean uniformity. We require agreement only on core, orthodox Christian faith and the biblical value of worship. There is no required worship style, expression, or musical approach. Diversity of expression is welcomed as long as gatherings remain Christ-centered, Scripture-anchored, and Spirit-led.
- 03No. We consistently affirm that the local church is God’s primary instrument in the earth. Altars of Worship are designed to strengthen the local church, not compete with it. They do not replace Sunday services and they do not require ongoing attendance beyond voluntary participation. They encourage believers to remain rooted in their home churches.
- 04Each altar is locally led, usually by a small team representing your church or participating churches/ministries in that region. We do not micromanage local gatherings or dictate leadership decisions. This is simply an invitation to stand together before the Lord as one to minister to Him with praise and worship. NYS Altars of Worship provides vision, Biblical framework, and relational coordination.
- 05The difference is intentional continuity and unity. Altars of Worship are regular (monthly), cross-church, local, regional, and statewide. These gatherings are focused on ministering to the Lord rather than hosting an event, and are connected to a broader statewide vision (One Voice NY). This consistency allows worship to function biblically as an altar, not just an event.
- 06One Voice NY is a semi-annual event to gather the NYS Body of Christ together on one day to minister to the Lord with praise and worship. It is a statement and witness of the unity of the Church in NYS to God, the world, and the enemy.
- 07No individual prophetic voice governs or directs NYS Altars of Worship. We prioritize biblical alignment. All activity is anchored in Scripture, discerned corporately, submitted to pastoral judgment, and evaluated by fruit over time.
- 08NYS Altars of Worship does not require financial commitment from participating churches. Any offerings taken at local altars are managed locally. There is no centralized financial control or obligation over churches or altars.
- 09By “governmental,” we do not mean political involvement or church control. We mean the biblical reality that God establishes His rule where He is honored (Psalm 22:3), unified worship carries spiritual authority (Psalm 149:6-9), and agreement in praise and worship releases heaven’s purposes (Matthew 18:19). This is spiritual government, not organizational power.
- 10Only what they freely choose to offer. Participation may include: Hosting or helping lead an altar of worship gathering, participating in the semi-annual One Voice NY statewide gathering, encouraging others to attend or participate, or praying for the initiative. There are no quotas, mandates, or contracts. We do have an event agreement for One Voice so that everyone is on the same page. All we ask is that if you say you are going to participate, that you follow through with your commitment.
- 11We believe that sustained worship prepares the way for God’s work, unity precedes awakening, and God moves through our ongoing obedience to gather and worship. Our aim is to see New York State aligned with heaven through consistent, unified worship.
- 12Jesus prayed that His people would be one, so that the world would know the Father sent Him (John 17:20–23). In the New Testament, believers gathered both house to house and at appointed times as the larger Body to minister to the Lord together. Shared local, regional, and statewide gatherings strengthen the Church, deepen unity, and align God’s people around His purposes. Joining with us is simply a way of declaring that the Church in New York State is one Body, standing together in worship. When we gather as one in person or by the Spirit, God commands blessings (Psalm 133:1-3).
